The Emancipation of Countess Blackwell

Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Countess Blackwell. I am a black transwoman in the process of emancipating myself, so I can live my most authentic life. To do so requires material resources, so I am currently hosting a fundraiser with a selection of incentives for everyone that donates.

I have said it before, but it bears repeating—thank you all, thank you so much. The amount of support I have received has been affirming and perspective altering. I am not a victim. I am a warrior. I have had to fight for much of my life. I fought adolescent and teenage boys. I have battled then surmounted multiple addictions, psychological maladies, and numerous profound childhood traumas. I maintained a soft underbelly in the face of 30 years of forced and reinforced male socialization.

When you have been traumatized your entire life, one of two things happen. Either you are inevitably swallowed whole [and I have certainly came close to succumbing on numerous occasions] or you become something that cannot be contained or controlled. I am now the latter.

Emancipation in practical terms, means getting my life in formation. I want to be able to drive to better host encounters in a city that is unkind to non-drivers. I want to pay off all debts. I want to live an authentic life.

It is equally important to me to start and build my career. All manner of bullshit incapacitated me emotionally and psychologically for some time, greatly hindering my ability to work. I did not enjoy that time in my life, as I am someone that receives joy and affirmation from work, particularly work that I love. I spiraled into a depression, which did not help matters. I was attempting to keep a fracturing psyche together while attempting to hold together a rapidly unraveling life. I succeeded at neither.

I am grateful now to have a brand that I love. Countess Blackwell makes me happy; it is me in the truest sense, an expression of who I am and what I have to offer. I am great at what I do, and want the opportunity to showcase that. Emancipation includes working my ass off everyday to create an amazing brand. I am grateful for the support and kindness of so many. Below is a shortlist of things people can do to help with the Emancipation of Countess Blackwell.
