The strength of the Crowd, the clueless and unconscious masses, lies in their collective ignorance. In the natural world, all manner of species governed exclusively by instinct accomplish feats of marvelous and astounding complexity. Reason is a recent feature in the grand scheme of human evolution, and is still too immature to supersede the subconscious, the dominant force in all of our thoughts and actions. The Crowd is blissfully unaware of this part of the mind, manifesting itself as unconscious. They are easily pliable and easily deceived because they perceive themselves as governed exclusively by reason. The Crowd represents the worst kind of ignorant—complete fools who are certain of their genius.
